Jarrets Lane Enclosed Garden

Jarrets Lane Enclosed Garden

The client had two very small enclosures and wanted some more space to grow some edibles that she could walk into and eat. The slope was very steep and required the site to be well levelled and a retaining wall to be built as part of the raised garden beds. Rather than standard long garden beds, the client wanted a tiered effect which makes the garden look more spacious and interesting. The garden is in a well situated place with great Northerly aspect with a good vegetation wind break behind the enclosure. Tallowa Dam Enclosed Garden

Tallowa Dam Enclosed Garden

The client was fed up with possums and Bower birds stealing his precious vegetables and crops that he was working so hard on growing. The client wanted to maintain the hardwood look that the property was constructed from.
This added a slight cost, but does add a rustic appeal to the structure. Note how tight and straight the wire and post work is. It is very difficult to get this element in an enclosure, and only through years of experience have we been able to perfect this look. We put crushed granite paths in that were packed in so as they have a very hard finish and won't run away when it rains. The beds are all constructed out of hardwood sleepers and we fill with a special veg garden soil mix. This photo is 3 months after construction with the garden in full production mode.

Kangaroo Valley Chicken Enclosure

Kangaroo Valley Chicken Enclosure

This wonderfully constructed enclosure is fully fox-proof with galvanised chicken mesh used on the walls, ceiling and horizontal apron to stop foxes and wombats burrowing in. We use square treated pine to give the enclosure a well-constructed look. The site presented some challenges, especially the angle of the slope. However, we managed to complete the job with a square shape yet maintain the contour of the land. In this circumstance the owner provided the actual chicken house, but we certainly make the full package on request. Irrigation is essential for a chicken run, and we installed a small self-filling drinking trough for the chickens that is easy to clean, but more importantly, guarantees that the birds always have access to water.

The client was after a reasonably small enclosure so as she could have enough produce in the garden for when they visited on the weekend. We now make the structures capable of holding significant weight on the top. This enclosure would not be able to take a climbing plant like a kiwi fruit. The crushed granite centre again makes the space appealing and gives a blended look to the timber raised beds. We always use mushroom compost in our beds to generate the best edible gardens. See some of our other enclosure designs to appreciate how we can tailor them to suit you.

This garden presented some interesting issues as the fence line at the rear of the property was not square with the house so the beds were made at unusual angles to give it a good appearance from the rear of the house. The beds are well drained and filled with premium garden soil. Access to the rear of the house was very difficult but we managed with the tight access. We used the crushed granite pathway to make access to the raised beds really easy. The pathway makes for no mowing and a really good look to the raised beds. The owners were more than happy with the completed project.

Kangaroo Valley Large enclosure

Kangaroo Valley large enclosure

Completed on Jacks Corner Road, this large enclosure was constructed to protect the owner's valuable crop from Bower birds, Wallabies and Possums. The construction was considerable large because the main aim was to preserve the well-developed Fig in the middle. The height of 3 meters is unusual but ended up looking attractive with the use of bird netting. The garden is now producing a bounty of raspberries, broccolis and tomatoes as well as succulent figs.

Berry Raised Beds

Berry raised beds

Completed in the town of Berry, this small family were after a garden that they could grow something but also teach their young daughter about edible plants. The three 2.4 m long beds are constructed of environmentally treated pine to a height that is both accessible and will ensure good growing depth for the produce. The trellis, located at the back will grow summer and winter climbers to capitalise on the space. The crushed granite border adds both style and functionality keeping out the grass and weeds.

This client had some small existing raised beds. However, Bower birds were taking more than their fair share of the produce causing much frustration. The client wanted to maintain the roof line while making it cost effective and simple. It is a very basic enclosure but still fulfils its purpose of keeping out the natives.

The Kangaroo Valley Rural Supplies 'The Red Shed' required a feature out the front of its shop that attracted more customers to enter the store. The garden serves as both a promotional opportunity for DG as well as giving Red Shed customers a concept of the types of goods they can purchase. The railway sleepers are A grade and are filled with a mix of soils to ensure long term growth of perennial vegetables and herbs. The community is welcome to pick from the garden as they please. The Red Shed is on Jenanter Drive which is the first street on the town side of the Hampden bridge.

However, his main issue was the constant bending down and foreseeing  his future saw a need to raise his garden.
